Journey From the River to the Lake Page 1 of 3

CHICAGO – Most of my life has been spent on land. On Wednesday and Thursday, however, I experienced the possibilities of fun on water. More specifically, I shipped out on the CIMA boat cruise, which departed from Navy Pier on Thursday night. I was a bit nervous traveling far from land, but the Illinois Venture Capital Conference cocktail party at Bob Chin's on the river prepared me for the long voyage. I love when things complement each other.

Not having been to Navy Pier since I was a teenager, I have to admit I was lost. Until I heard "Lou, we're over here," I glanced the other direction and saw the welcoming committee and hosts of the CIMA boat cruise, who included Janice Down (left), Christine Schmidt and Tim Seeden.
Before the ship set sail, fellow shipmates Lillian Bjorseth (left), Ann Edakkunnathu (left middle), Sheetal Shah and Paul Lim sat around in the dining area exchanging ideas and describing how their friend (not themselves) gets sick every time she's are on a boat.
The second group of people I met was David Adler (right), Ardath Berlient of brought 2 U by (right middle), Susan Weiss of SWPR (left middle) and Gerri Kelly of Mediabuz. The conversation was actually quite short. All they asked was: "Where's Brad? Why isn't he here and what have you done with him?"
Just as the ship left the pier, I took a picture of Shawn Riegsecker, president of Integrent Media, along with Kortni Lee (right) and Kari Hooper. Shawn was thinking to himself: "Free food, booze and the two coolest girls from Starcom IP. I love these CIMA events."
Being the frequent eater that I am, I asked Sean Rosenthal of Life Fitness (left), Alec Ross (middle) and Matthew Forcey of Context Media to watch the buffet until my hunger returned. I hope they did not get too violent. I have learned that you just do not mess with those software guys.
Scott Thompson (left) and Todd Holmes, both of Liquidus, were downstairs discussing their game plan before going upstairs to the deck. They agreed on entering the deck last to create an image of coolness and professionalism. You know what? They pulled it off.
Pam Stein of UAL, Christine Schmidt of 24/7 and Jessica Boggs of AlphaZeta all decided to hug and make up after fighting over who was my date for the night. A guy can dream, can't he?
